It’s not racist to expect immigrants to enter legally or be concerned about the migrant caravans

Its not racist to expect immigrants to enter legally or to be concerned about the migrant caravans

The extreme leftist narrative being put forth by mainstream media and Democratic candidates for office is arguably scarier than the massive illegal immigration problem we have in America. This is different from past messages of compassion and security that led to DACA. The new narrative is one that fully embraces open borders.

It’s unfortunate that it came to this based on timing. If it weren’t for the first migrant caravan, illegal immigration wouldn’t be much of a topic for the midterms. Democrats wouldn’t be talking about it except as it’s framed within preserving DACA. Republicans would mention the wall at rallies but otherwise wouldn’t be saying much. A little over a month ago, illegal immigration wasn’t a major election issue.

The caravans have changed this and forced both sides to address it. For Republicans, it’s a welcome addition to the conversation because it takes focus away from their inability to repeal, replace, or even fix Obamacare. For Democrats, they’re being forced into a corner that’s causing them to veer left on the topic so their rhetoric matches the loudest fringe portion of their base that believes opposing President Trump requires an equal but opposite reaction.

Both sides are wrong to an extent.

This might be a good thing for Republicans in the short-term as it pertains to midterm elections, but it has dramatically accelerated the shift in mindset for Democrats. One could argue that the timing was perfect for those pushing for open borders because it forced centrist Democrats to see this as a campaign issue. Politicians are easiest to mold ahead of elections as their views rapidly evolve to match the news cycle.

Time for a brief tinfoil hat moment. The forces pushing for open borders that orchestrated these caravans are using proximity to the election to force moderate Democrats into their camp. They care much less about the results of this election than shifting the mindset on immigration among the impressionable progressives who adamantly oppose President Trump. By creating a situation where Democratic candidates and mainstream media are forced to play the proper foil to President Trump’s predictable responses to the migrant caravans, the orchestrators of the caravans gained years worth or propaganda and open borders indoctrination in a couple of months.

Pro-Immigration, anti-illegal-immigration

It’s safe to take your tinfoil hat off, now.

Most of my family members in the United States are immigrants. I am an immigrant myself; my father was in the U.S. Air Force stationed in the Philippines when he met my mother. I came here when I was 8-months-old.

I am one of millions of conservatives who believe legal immigration is a good thing for our country. When good people are willing to go through the immigration process to become permanent residents of our country, they have the best opportunity to contribute. One of my uncles is an immigrant who was in the U.S. Navy. His wife, my aunt, is an immigrant. She’s a nurse. One of their children is also a nurse. The other works for a U.S. military contractor. They love watching football and having barbecues. They hate paying taxes, but they’ve done so since coming here. Legally.

They contribute. They’re the “best people” that President Trump often describes, the legal immigrants who seized the American dream and give back to our nation as a result.

Illegal immigration steals from them. It belittles the legal immigration process. It takes taxpayer dollars that should be spent on Americans but is instead spent to keep them safe, healthy, and educated. That’s if they’re not caught. If they do get caught, the expense to American taxpayers rises.

Being opposed to illegal immigration is not racism. It isn’t heartless. We are a sovereign nation that must rely on our people, whether born here or legally here as immigrants, to participate in making our own lives, families, and communities better. By doing so, we all take part in making our nation better.

Those who circumvent our laws and accept the benefits of American life are stealing from those who contribute to everything it means to be an American. That’s not a racists statement. It’s a statement of fact. I have no problem with my tax dollars being spent helping people in need and there are millions of American citizens and legal immigrants who fall into that category.

Safety and hope for migrants in the caravans

Part of mainstream media’s narrative is that the conditions the migrants are leaving are so terrible that they need to be helped. I agree that their conditions are horrific. In Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador where most of the migrants originated, their prospects are very dim. Many of them are in grave danger. That’s where the narrative makes sense.

It dissolves the moment we realize the vast majority are passing up on an open invitation to be safe, educated, medically treated, sheltered, and given jobs. Mexico wants them to stay. They have offered them the protections those in the migrant caravan claim to seek. Yet, few are accepting the offer.

They would rather walk an extra thousand+ miles and face a likelihood of being turned away for an opportunity to live in America illegally.

“But, they want to do it legally through the asylum system,” a leftist might point out.

This is a lie. It is well known in these countries that 4 out of 5 applying for asylum do not receive it. That’s acceptable to those in the migrant caravan, not because they like long odds but because they’ve been told how the system works. Asylum seekers are held until they apply. Then, they’re released until their court appearance, which often takes years.

During that time, they’re able to secure a foothold in the United States by living here illegally. Most won’t show up to hear the bad news that their application was denied. They won’t have to. By that time they will have established themselves with a life of living in the United States illegally while being protected by progressives.

It doesn’t matter that 70%-80% within the caravans are young, healthy men. The focus from the media is on the pregnant women trying to get to America before their babies are born. It doesn’t matter that crime is already rampant within the caravan itself. As far as the media is concerned, these harmless migrants aren’t bringing any crime across the border. It doesn’t matter if they’re already getting violent and clashing with Mexican authorities. Even showing such videos is labeled as racist by the left.

If you express valid concerns about any of the migrant caravans trying to enter America at any cost, you’re just a racist in the eyes of the fringe left, their Democratic candidate enablers, and their puppets in mainstream media.

There are real concerns and a majority of Americans on the right and left know it. But the far-left is being given the authoritative voice by mainstream media so the open borders narrative can prevail. Any who voice concerns are instantly labeled a racist.

    Good article.
You touched very lightly on some of the burdens these people impose through their physical breach of the US Border. By their very presence they require at a minimum food and shelter, these must be provided to minimum US standards, not those that would be the practice in the countries they are coming from.
An even larger threat represented by these people is that they have not been screened for disease. there are many diseases endemic in Central America that have been eliminated in the USA, at great cost and public effort on the part of our forebears. We have little or no way to screen them for the presence or absence of these diseases short of an intensive and expensive panel of medical screenings, plus an equally intensive requirement that they ~all~ be vaccinated, whether they are granted entry to the USA or not.

Several injured as first wave of migrant caravan clashes with Mexicans in Tijuana

Several injured as first wave of migrant caravan clashes with Mexican citizens in Tijuana

A portion of the first migrant caravan has arrived at the border city of Tijuana, Mexico. Their first night there resulted in violent clashes with residents that resulted in several injuries, including three journalists.

This group of around 750 migrants is the largest to reach the border. City and Baja California state officials set up shelters to accommodate the visitors, but nearly half of the migrants left, preferring to sleep out in the open. Most gathered on the beach near the United States border where they were met by residents demanding they return to the shelters.

“The message to the migrant population is very clear,” Francisco Rueda Gómez, secretary-general of the state of Baja California. “We are providing them with humanitarian support, health care and food, however the need to take into consideration the rules of the shelters so they can coexist in harmony with the local population.”

This marks the first test of how migrants will react to their situation now that the journey is over and the waiting begins. They could be in Tijuana for months. Their first night didn’t go as planned.

Around 3,000 more migrants are on their way to bolster their numbers at the border city.

My Take

Some of the migrants were interviewed by media and seemed confused they weren’t embraced with open arms. They were cheered on in other cities they’d passed through on their way to the border, but Tijuana is reacting differently.

The reason is obvious. It’s easy to cheer on people who are passing through. It’s more difficult to cheer for people who are going to be living near you for an extended period of time, especially when they scoff at the free shelter, food, and services they are being given on their first night.

If things are this bad on the first night with a few hundred migrants arriving, what will happen when they’re reunited with other factions from the original caravan? Things may get ugly very quickly in Tijuana.

Luis Cobos-Cenobio, the star of the Arkansas dashcam shootout, is an illegal immigrant

Luis Cobos-Cenobio the star of the Arkansas dash cam shootout is an illegal immigrant

It’s an odd headline. The lede in this story should the shocking dashcam footage showing suspect Luis Cobos-Cenobio firing on police who were trying to pull him over. Unfortunately, immigration status is either buried or ignored altogether by mainstream media, so we thought it was necessary to point out up front that the man who allegedly tried to shoot and kill police officers is an illegal immigrant.

You can read the details at Fox News, one of the only outlets I’ve found so far that mentions his immigration status:

Dashcam video shows moment illegal immigrant suspect opens fire on Arkansas police officer

https://www.foxnews.com/us/dashcam-video-shows-moment-illegal-immigrant-suspect-opens-fire-on-arkansas-police-officerCobos-Cenobio has been jailed on $500,000 bond, and has had a detainer placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, an agency spokesperson confirmed to Fox News.

Cobos-Cenobio has been charged with four counts of attempted capital murder, committing a terroristic act, fleeing, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to police.

If he is convicted on any or all of these charges, he’s going to jail for a long time. There’s no way to know at this point how many Americans he’s harmed in the past. Sadly, as a criminal illegal immigrant, there’s no reason for him to be here in the first place.

Mainstream media doesn’t want you to know that part of the story, though. Some went so far as to avoid the topic altogether.

For example, this article from ABC News is nearly 400-words in length and never even hints at his immigration status. Many stories simply noted as deep into the article as possible that he had a “federal hold” or “detainer request” without indicating that almost certainly means he’s here illegally.

Mainstream media is desperate to bury or cover up anything that pertains to illegal immigrants. This story, with its amazing and terrifying video, was too “good” for them to pass up. That didn’t stop them from hiding his immigration status.

Senator who pushes negative perception of ICE badgers nominee over negative perception of ICE

Senator who pushes negative perception of ICE badgers nominee over negative perception of ICE

Only in Washington DC is it okay for someone to complain about a problem they created, then attack someone else for not fixing the problem. It happens on both sides of the aisle but Democrats have become especially adept at it lately. Case in point: Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA).

As one of the frontrunners to go against President Trump in 2020, the California Senator has built much of her short career in DC around attacks on ICE. She demonizing the law enforcement agency any time the topics of border security, deportations, or illegal immigration come up. She has called for the agency to be dismantled and questions anything they do to fulfill their mission of keeping Americans safe.

That’s why it’s so disgusting to hear her badger Ronald Vitiello, President Trump’s nominee to lead ICE, over the topic of negative perceptions surrounding the agency. She went so far as to try to draw parallels between ICE and the Ku Klux Klan during his confirmation hearings.

“Are you aware of the perception of many about how the power and the discretion at ICE is being used to enforce the laws and do you see any parallels?” she asked.

“I do not see any parallels,” Vitiello replied. “That puts ICE in the same category as the KKK. Is that what you’re asking me?”

Harris, a former prosecutor and California Attorney General before becoming a Senator, seemed to be trying to trap the nominee into admitting that ICE is perceived by illegal immigrants the same way the KKK was perceived in the past.

Vitiello should have told her if those perceptions do exist, it’s because of rhetoric she and other Democrats have been spewing since President Trump took office.

Four months ago, the Senator said this:

New litmus test? Dems demand elimination of ICE amid immigration furor | Fox News

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/new-litmus-test-dems-demand-elimination-of-ice-amid-immigration-furorOn the West Coast, Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., who has been floated as a 2020 Democratic contender, said that the U.S. should consider “starting from scratch” for ICE — though stopped short of calling to abolish it.

“There’s no question that we’ve got to critically re-examine ICE and its role, and the way that it is being administered, and the work it is doing,” Harris said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday. “And we need to probably think about starting from scratch.”

It’s quite rich for the Senator to push anti-ICE rhetoric onto the public, then ask a nominee to lead ICE if he’s aware the law enforcement organization is perceived like the Ku Klux Klan. GOP Chair Ronna McDaniel called it her 2020 campaign launch.
