President Donald Trump said he believed a two-state solution may be the most likely way to finally make an Israeli-Palestinian peace deal a reality. He initially stated he preferred the two-state solution, then made his opinion more clear by stating whatever the two sides want is what he wants.
All he wants is a peace deal regardless of whether it’s one-state or two. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu replied:
Netanyahu ‘not surprised’ at Trump’s preference for two-state solution
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday after meeting Donald Trump that he was “not surprised” at the U.S. president’s preference for a two-state solution for peace with the Palestinians, Israeli media reports said.
Trump’s comment on a two-state solution was the clearest expression yet of his administration’s support for such an outcome. He has in the past said he would support a two-state solution if both sides agreed to it.
My Take
A two-state solution is not really a solution. It would put Israel in such a precarious situation that the peace it claimed to provide would be impossible to maintain for very long.
