Trump keeps promise to kill First Amendments freedom of the press

In the article I wrote a few days ago recognizing Donald Trump as the recipient of the Wile E. Coyote award for his status as a self-proclaimed “genius,” I made a promise to the Trump cult that I would try harder to find good things to say about the president.

Well, as a man committed to keeping his word, I’m happy to announce that I indeed found another good thing to say about Mr. Trump.

Now, it’s no secret to those not drinking the orange Kool-Aid that Trump plays loose with the truth. Heck, it was just a few days ago that Trump confirmed that he lied about rescinding DACA when in a meeting with Democrat leaders, he promised to sign “anything” Congress passes to provide amnesty to DREAMers and making DACA permanent.

However, yesterday Trump renewed his commitment to keep one of his campaign promises when he announced during a staff meeting that his administration will take steps to void the First Amendment’s right to a free press by “fixing” America’s libel laws which had become a “sham and a disgrace.”

““Our current libel laws are a sham and a disgrace and do not represent American values and American fairness. We’re going to take a very, very strong look at that.

”You can’t say things that are false, knowingly false, and be able to smile as money pours into your bank account.”

Making money by saying false things? Now, I could be wrong here, but isn’t that exactly what Trump and his buddies at the National Enquirer did when they accused Ted Cruise of adultery and Ted’s father of being involved in the JFK assassination, and then using that information to fill Trump’s campaign coffers?

Trump’s promise to eliminate freedom of the press first made headlines at an appearance at a Texas rally in February 2016.

“If I win . . . I’m going to open our libel laws so when they write purposely negative horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money.”

I’m not exactly sure why Trump keeps making a connection between our Constitutional rights and making money, but apparently in Trump’s world it’s okay to make money by denying someone their First Amendment rights, but it’s not okay to make money if you exercise them.

During his campaign and into his presidency, Trump has used his “fake news” spiel as a tool to lay down the foundation for his claim that the media was so corrupt that it had become “an enemy of the people.”

Trump’s narcissism and Constitutional ignorance presents a clear and present danger to liberty–he was voted the world’s most oppressive leader toward press freedom by the Committee to Protect Journalists–but he kept his promise nonetheless.

So, we here at the Strident Conservative offer up major props to Donald Trump for keeping a campaign promise . . . God, help us.

Planned Parenthood providing sex-change hormones to children

Planned Parenthood providing sex-change hormones to children

Planned Parenthood, the agency that celebrated a banner year in 2017 after murdering over 321,000 unborn babies while pocketing nearly $544 million in taxpayer funds—occasionally making a few extra bucks on the side by selling their body parts—has announced their expansion plans for 2018.

No longer content with simply ending a life before it begins, the so-called women’s healthcare provider will be pursuing a new revenue source—hormone “sex-change” treatment FOR MINORS. And get this . . . it will be paid by taxpayers through Medicaid.

According to Planned Parenthood’s VP of Medical Affairs, Suzie Prabhakaran, “It was time for us to expand the care that we were providing to minors” because gender-confused youth might have difficulty in getting the hormones they seek from “judgmental” doctors.

In most cases, dispensing hormones to patients under 18 to treat so-called gender dysphoria requires a letter from a doctor or therapist, but Planned Parenthood has no such requirement. Company policy simply requires informed consent, which means that once the child acknowledges the risks, treatment is given.

In a story by a Sarasota, Florida TV station, Planned Parenthood reminded those under 18 that they needed a parent’s permission to receive treatment—a worthless disclaimer, considering their track record of fighting parental consent laws when it comes to abortion. And let’s not forget how Planned Parenthood skirted partial-birth laws in order to harvest baby body parts.

According to the American College of Pediatricians, conditioning children to believe that being transgendered is normal is essentially child abuse. Even if you accept the LGBT-radical belief in the fake-science of transgenderism, giving life-altering hormones to children causes serious irreversible side effects.

Real science has proven that abortion stops a beating heart, that most children grow out of gender dysphoria, and giving hormones to otherwise normal children damages them for life. But since when has Planned Parenthood—who advises parents to assume their child is LGBT—ever allowed science to get in the way of making a buck?

As if murdering unborn children wasn’t enough, this development is one more reason why Trump and the GOP must keep their promise to defund Planned Parenthood . . . I’m not holding my breath.

Please disregard all other interpretations of the President’s Tweet on CHIP

Please disregard all other interpretations of the Presidents Tweet on CHIP

Reports are flying across mainstream media that Republicans in DC are “baffled” by the President’s Tweet this morning about Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). To be fair, there’s definitely room for misunderstanding.

Republicans are using CHIP funding as a negotiating tool to push forward a stopgap measure to keep the government funded. It’s a PR move; Republicans want to be able to say the Democrats voted against helping needy children if they oppose the stopgap measure.

There are three reasons the President would have Tweeted this:

  1. He isn’t aware that GOP leaders on Capitol Hill are using the 6-year extension as leverage to keep the government funded.
  2. He wants a government shutdown.
  3. He doesn’t believe they need to play that particular “chip” for a 30-day extension and would prefer they save it for a long-term government funding deal.

Most in the media and apparently a handful of Republicans on Capitol Hill are going with option 1:

Trump baffles GOP with tweet scrambling shutdown talks

http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/369545-trump-baffles-gop-with-tweet-scrambling-shutdown-talksPresident Trump undermined his own party’s plan to avert a looming government shutdown on Thursday after tweeting that a key Democratic bargaining chip shouldn’t be attached to the funding package.

The 17-word tweet threw Capitol Hill into a state of confusion ahead of what is already expected to be a tight vote in the House on Thursday night. Republicans on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue were trying to decipher what exactly the president meant by declaring that a popular children’s health-care program should be part of a “long term solution” as opposed to a “30 Day, or short term, extension.”

A handful of pundits on both sides of the aisle are going with option 2. They’re taking into account past comments by the President saying a shutdown wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing. Some conservatives support this idea. Most Democrats think it makes him evil (though they didn’t have the same reaction when the government was shut down during President Obama’s watch). They see the President as truly trying to undermine the process and force a shutdown.

The truth is option 3. He believes a 6-year extension on an extremely popular program is being wasted on a 30-day deal. He wants to save the “CHIP chip,” so to speak, for a long-term government funding deal that would extend beyond the election.

To some extent, he’s correct. The challenge is in logistics and uncertainty. Had the GOP pushed forward a 6-month CHIP funding extension as part of the deal with the understanding that a longer extension would be worked into the long-term funding plan, they’d be in better shape. In fact, making it a 6-month extension puts it in the spotlight ahead of the real push for a long-term plan. It would add a sense of urgency. Now, they’re wasting it to buy themselves another month. Unfortunately, the 6-year promise is already on the table. It would be difficult to pull it back now.

Once again, the media completely misses the point the President is trying to make and hopes others will fall for it. The sad thing is many Republicans in DC are among those falling for the media’s trickery. Just get the deal done and stop worrying about the President’s Twitter account.

Republicans can avert a shutdown if they turn the narrative

Republicans can avert a shutdown if they turn the narrative

Democrats are giving every reason they can muster to push a government shutdown. The primary tool is DACA. If the government shuts down, it will be because they’re convinced the GOP will get the blame for it. If sentiment turns and the Democrats get fingered for prompting the shutdown, they won’t let it happen.

There are several dynamic situations involved with the shutdown. DACA is only a small part of it. They’re trying to position this as a win-win for them and the Republicans seem to be unable to get the right message out about the shutdown. This isn’t new for them. If the GOP initiates the shutdown as they did during the Obama era, it’s their fault. If they can’t stop the Democrats from initiating a shutdown as is the situation today, it’s their fault as well.

Mainstream media’s desire to promote the Democrats’ message is a big part of the reason the GOP always takes the blame, but it’s not an insurmountable advantage. They need to paint the situation in its proper colors. The GOP has the truth on their side, so they need to say it. Instead, they seem to be cowering as usual:

Nervous Republicans fear they’ll pay if government shuts down

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/nervous-republicans-fear-they-ll-pay-government-shutdown-n838276WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is confident that Democrats will take the blame if the government shuts down this weekend or Congress fails to find a fix to prevent DACA recipients from being deported. But Republicans on Capitol Hill aren’t so sure.

Many of them fear that voters will fault the GOP after looking at Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, his past flirtation with letting federal funding expire and the fact that Republicans are in control of the White House, the Senate and the House.

First, they need to attack DACA by framing it as what it is. The President has done his part in saying he wants to protect Dreamers but wants a wall to keep more of them from coming in. That’s a reasonable trade-off in the eyes of most voters.

Second, the GOP needs to unify with the message that they’re going to protect Dreamers the right way through standalone legislative action. Executive orders can’t cut it. Attaching it to other bills isn’t right. They want a DACA plan in place and they can do it if the Democrats would focus on helping Dreamers rather than trying to be the ones who get the credit for it.

Third, they need to declare the Democrats are hurting Americans through a shutdown for the sake of getting credit for helping Dreamers. It’s not just  that they’re putting illegal immigrants over American citizens which is bad enough. They’re doing so in order to get credit from voters. That’s it. That’s the whole reason for the shutdown. They can’t imagine a situation in which the GOP puts forth Dreamer-protecting legislation and a Republican President signs it into law unless it’s the Democrats who somehow force the situation. Otherwise, they might be revealed as the charlatans they are.

If Republican leadership gets everyone on board and pushes out these three simple messages with everything they’ve got, they have a chance of both averting a shutdown and making the Democrats look foolish for threatening it. If they continue down the lukewarm road they’re on, there will be a shutdown and they’ll get the blame for it whether they deserve it or not.
