Facebook has fundamentally changed how people interact as well as how they judge their own self-worth. This isn’t speculation. It has been widely demonstrated just how addicted to the “life” affirming elements of Facebook many people have become.
Former Facebook executive Chamath Palihapitiya is speaking out about it. Some may call him a hypocrite for getting rich off something, then turning against it, but it’s unlikely he know what he was getting into when he started. For that, he gets a pass. Here’s one of the complaints he has about the social network and its effects on society:
“The short-term, dopamine-driven feedback loops that we have created are destroying how society works.”
