Ted Cruz on Democratic opposition to homeschooling

It’s unfortunate that Ted Cruz’s provision for 529 homeschool expense accounts couldn’t be included in tax cuts due to parliamentary procedures. They had to strike it in order to keep the bill under budget reconciliation, preventing a Democratic filibuster. Nevertheless, he used the opportunity to make his perspective known about how Democrats treat schooling choice in general.

“What every Democrat is standing up to do right now is saying, ‘we’re going to discriminate against home-schoolers. We’re going to cut you out.’ Why? Because the Democratic Party can’t stand the audacity of a parent who would take it upon himself or herself to educate their child free of centralized control.”

This won’t be the last we’ll see of Cruz and other homeschool advocates pushing for legislation empowering school choice.

“What every Democrat is standing up to do right now is saying, ‘we’re going to discriminate against home-schoolers. We’re going to cut you out.’ Why? Because the Democratic Party can’t stand the audacity of a parent who would take it upon himself or herself to educate their child free of centralized control,” Cruz said from the Senate floor.
