Over the course of the last few years, we’ve been treated to numerous examples of glaring problems with our system of justice, or lack thereof. I don’t think there is a problem so much with the system as it was written, but rather the fact that it is not being enforced in an even-handed manner, and in many cases it is being overused as a way of punishing opponents of the status quo and big government, or simply as a way to extort money from the citizenry who already pay far too much of their income to the government.
Kate Steinle’s killer, a man who had been deported five times previously and was in illegal possession of a gun, was found not guilty after his lawyer concocted a ridiculous story about the Sig Sauer “accidentally going off.” Anyone who knows anything about guns knows Sigs do NOT “just go off.”
Bowe Bergdahl, the traitor, and deserter who President Obama’s traded five high-level Taliban leaders for, was given no prison time by a military judge, and may even end up getting $300,000 in back pay for his time with the Taliban.
Hillary Clinton, who admitted to mishandling classified information that would have gotten a military member put in prison is free. James Comey testified before Congress that she committed these crimes, but because she “didn’t intend to commit crimes” he decided not recommend charges. We’re now learning that members of the FBI actively covered up her crimes. I wonder what, if any, punishment they will see?
It looks like Harvey Weinstein might finally see justice, but after how long and how many victims? What about Al Franken, John Conyers, and other members of Congress who have committed sexual assault? Will they ever face justice or do they just pay off their victims with taxpayer money and go on their way? Conyers is retiring and setting up his son to succeed him. Hardly punishment.
And should we even get started on the three-ring circus of injunctions on President Trump’s lawful travel ban that’s liberal activist judges kept trying to shut down? By a vote of 7-2, the Supreme Court let it go forward while the issue is debated, which means even two liberal justices joined with the conservatives and moderates to uphold the rule of law.
On the flip side, we see the government used as a weapon to strike down all who oppose its tyrannical march. The IRS has been weaponized for a long time, and I don’t just mean the targeting of Tea Party groups before the 2012 elections. Federal Tax courts exist. How horrifying is it that our tax code is so complicated that it requires it so own courts?
Robert Mueller was appointed as special prosecutor to investigate any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Well, ok. Fine. We certainly don’t want foreign countries interfering in our elections, but let’s examine what they really mean by this.
The Democrats keep using ambiguous words like “collusion” and “interfered” and “hacked.” Do we really think the Russians hacked the voting booths and changed the outcome? James Comey was asked that question and testified that there was no reason to believe that was so.
So the WORST that happened was that the Russians helped Wikileaks dig up dirt on Hillary Clinton and got John Podesta to click on a link to a phishing email which revealed a bunch of internal emails. This showed Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, and the rest of their campaign to be horrible human beings. This wasn’t exactly new information.
And yet here we are, still with a special prosecutor going after process crimes like lying to the FBI which wouldn’t have happened if the investigation which never should have occurred in the first place hadn’t happened. It’s becoming clear that top members of the FBI have been lying to us, and yet there doesn’t seem to be any punishment for that. When a citizen doing something to the government is a crime but even government doing that same thing to the citizenry is not, that’s a problem.
On a smaller scale, how many times are we citizenship beaten down every day? I’ve had traffic tickets before and always just paid them or negotiated them down. A few weeks ago I went home from my job for lunch. I live not two blocks away. Now I ALWAYS wear my seatbelt, but on this particular day I was grabbing something at the stoplight and had taken it off. As I was going under the underpass, I was reaching to put it back on, and there was a cop sitting there in the shadows.
The cop pulled me over and cited me for not wearing my seatbelt. My license plates say disabled veteran. It was Veterans Day. I mean, talk about being a jackass, but that’s neither here nor there. $152. It was then I realized that just paying it was exactly what they WANTED me to do. This was a shakedown for money, just as sure as a con artist claiming I had hit their car. In this city, there is child sex trafficking, drug trafficking, and a host of other crimes that go unchecked. Maybe that would be a better use of police efforts instead of harassing decent citizens?
I showed up to court today requesting a jury trial. They wanted to push it until almost two months from now. I insisted on my Constitutional right to a speedy trial. I was told, “we don’t do speedy trials here, sir.” So apparently Constitutional rights don’t exist in the San Antonio municipal court.
I went back to the prosecutor and requested that since they could not accommodate my right to a speedy trial, they drop the charges. The prosecutor, a man by the name of Mario Vega, arrogantly sneered and said: “Why we do that, sir?”
This wasn’t the look of a normal attorney thinking he’s better than everyone. This was the look of a GOVERNMENT attorney talking to a peasant who worked for him, who he OWNED. This was the look of a master talking to his slave. We go to court a January 29th, and I’ll see if I can convince my fellow citizens that a sort of jack-booted thuggery is something we can’t stand for.
Large and small issues, this is how the government controls us. It may all technically be legal, but so was slavery. Everything the Nazis did in Germany was legal. Everything the Communists didn’t in Russia, China, and Cambodia was legal. It doesn’t make it right.
The United States, like all great empires, is too powerful to be brought down from external forces, but also like all great empires, like Greece and Rome, it is internal problems that could bring us down. Excessive laws and the random enforcement of them, or not enforcing them at all as in the case of Hillary Clinton or Kate Steinle’s killer, contributes mightily to those internal problems. I can only pray my fellow citizens become as sick of it as I am and we all choose to do something about it.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
