We are barely into President Trump’s first term, but the Democrat base has been fired up from the start. From the endless rants about Russian collusion, rising white supremacy, and calls for impeachment, the Democrats have been frothing at the mouth to do whatever they can to extricate Trump from office by any means. The most realistic way is, obviously, to defeat him in the 2020 election, and the party is wasting no time in gathering names to serve as prospective candidates.
According to The Hill, Democrats predict that as many as 30 candidates will vie for the nomination. And, of course, it is too early to know who they will be or how many will run, but many names have been floating around over the last year. Examples include Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Kamala Harris (D-CA), former Vice President Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).
Interestingly, the Democrats want to reinvent their party’s image from an entrenched establishment (such as the Clintons, for example) to newer people with newer ideas. But many names that are being touted have been integral components of the party for years. Out of the four mentioned above, only one (Harris) is new to Congress and is the only one that will be under 70 years old by 2020.
But it seems that the name which resonates most is Sanders’. This is far from unreasonable because although he will be 79 years old in 2020, he competed in the last cycle and came extraordinarily close to defeating Hillary Clinton for the Democrat nomination. He is also very popular among millennial voters.
However, this is also very daunting. Sanders is an avowed socialist and has been his entire career. He honeymooned in the Soviet Union during the Cold War, a regime founded via Communism with the blood of hundreds of millions on its hands. Sanders is also an admirer of the Communist Sandinista regime of Nicaragua. He also holds vehemently anti-Israel positions.
In short, Sanders typifies everything America is not.
So why is he a favorite for a mainstream American political party?
It is evident that the Democrat party is, de facto, not a mainstream party anymore. Gone are the days of JFK, who ran on lowering taxes and famously said, “[A]sk not what your country can do or you, but what you can do for your country.” Gone are the days of Jimmy Carter, who, despite his many flaws, loved his country. The fact that Sanders, an unabashed Marxist, could be a possible presidential candidate says much more about the Democrat party and their electorate than it does about him.
If Sanders does run, much needs to be examined about the people who would ever consider voting for him. Someone who views America with such disdain that he would honeymoon in Moscow and glorifies the antithesis of this country could potentially sit in the Oval Office. Foreboding and terrifying. If Sanders winning the Presidency doesn’t scare Americans, then I’m not sure what will.

“If Sanders winning the Presidency doesn’t scare Americans, then I’m not sure what will.”
Donald Trump winning the Presidency should scare Americans AT LEAST as much as Sanders – and not for partisan reasons – for reasons of his lack of knowledge about government, foreign affairs, the Constitution or leadership principles in general, his lack of honor, decency, and total disrespect for his word, his almost complete lack of loyalty to the US when his own private interests are at stake and his lewd (even abusive) behavior toward women and anyone that disagrees with him.
If 2020 boils down to a choice of Trump vs Sanders again, the US may not be able to survive until 2024. We desperately need a viable 3rd party with honorable people that we can vote FOR in 2020 – people that are willing to fight for their honor and integrity against the (guaranteed) partisan and untrue slurs and smears that BOTH parties will be inundating the news cycles with in order to try to “shame” them out of the race.
