At least 235 people have been killed and 125 injured as terrorists attacked people leaving Al-Rawda mosque in the troubled North Sinai region of Egypt. The attacks were extremely coordinated with at least one suicide bomber and several gunmen positioned for maximum casualties. Gunmen were positioned to attack response vehicles as well.
Militants have been gaining ground in Egypt despite claims by the government that they are being driven back. This latest attack and the new style in which it was carried out declares a narrative different than the official report from Cairo.
Some reports are coming in that 15 terrorists Egypt believed to be responsible for the attack have been killed in drone strikes. Neither the government nor credible media sources have confirmed this.

President Trump responded to an apparent terror attack that left over 200 people dead in Egypt on Friday morning, calling it a “horrible and cowardly” attack on “innocent and defenseless worshipers.”
“The world cannot tolerate terrorism, we must defeat them militarily and discredit the extremist ideology that forms the basis of their existence!” he tweeted.

President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi convened an emergency meeting in wake of the deadly attack. Meanwhile, investigative teams, military and police are in the area and “chasing down the perpetrators,” a military source told the Guardian.
Egypt has long been battling militants in North Sinai, where hundreds of law enforcement officers and soldiers have been killed since the fighting there has intensified in recent years.

Jihadis detonated an explosive device and shot revellers dead as they left the compound, which the gunmen had surrounded. In all, at least 235 people were left dead and 130 injured, according to state media.
No group had claimed responsibility as of Friday morning, but the region has been plagued with a Sunni insurgency against Egyptian security forces, Christians and pilgrims for years. State media showed images of bloodied victims and bodies covered in blankets inside the Al Rawdah mosque in Bir al-Abed, west of the city of El Arish. “They were shooting at people as they left the mosque,” a local resident whose relatives were at the scene told Reuters. “They were shooting at the ambulances too.”
Arabiya news channel and some local sources said some of the worshippers were sufis who hardliners such as Islamic State regard as apostates because they revere saints and shrines, which for Islamists is tantamount to idolatry.
