Let’s put aside, for a moment, the natural cynicism that has surrounded the Robert Mueller Russian investigation since its inception. Republicans have generally balked at the concept and felt the special counsel will only be going after President Trump and his campaign team. I don’t think that’s the case and neither does Leon Panetta.
“One thing is for certain, that we’re at the beginning of this investigation, not at the end of it,” the former CIA Director said on CNN Monday night.
This isn’t a case of a rabbit hole that goes deep. We have several rabbit holes in play and Mueller is likely exploring all of them. The fact that Tony Podesta’s name keeps coming up in regards to this investigation, particularly after he stepped down from his lobbying firm yesterday, makes for a very safe bet that Mueller has discovered some connection with Democrats.
“There will be other trails of evidence that will be followed by Bob Mueller,” he continued. “I think there’s probably a very good bet that additional indictments will be forthcoming and could involve members of both parties.”

Lest we forget, there is more evidence available to the public right now that the Democrats colluded in some way with Russia, even if only indirectly through their commission of the Steele Dossier. The only question that remains is whether or not Mueller is going to play the role of partisan hack or true investigator.
Law over loyalty
Republicans may not like Mueller, but we have to assume that his allegiance to the law is stronger than his allegiance to the Democrats. If that’s not true, there’s nothing we can do about it anyway. He has been clothed in tremendous power for this investigation. If the President isn’t going to fire him (he won’t), then the only recourse would be to appoint a separate special counsel to look into the Democrats as well.
If we don’t see such a move made in the next few weeks, it will be because the White House is confident Mueller is positioning everything on a level playing field. This isn’t about Republicans versus Democrats or Trump versus Hillary Clinton. It’s about America versus Russia. Mueller’s charter is to find out if Russia engaged with the campaigns, what influence they may have over people associated with the campaigns, who helped them gain this influence, and what can be done to prevent them from doing it again.
Personally, I don’t like Mueller, but I trust his methods. To some extent, I trust his motives as well. If he does uncover wrongdoing by members of either or both campaigns, that trust will be justified. Again, there’s nothing that can be done even if we don’t trust him unless someone wants to launch an expensive and potentially fruitless parallel investigation that not only tries to uncover the truth but also monitors whether Mueller’s team is hiding any of it. The chances of that happening are slim and even if it did happen, we probably wouldn’t know until it was done.
There’s a stench of corruption on both sides of the ball when it comes to Russia. Robert Mueller has an opportunity to be a hero if he uncovers all of it. If all we get is Manafort, Podesta, and their cohorts, this will all have been a tremendous waste of time, money, and emotion.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
Forgive my skepticism regarding Mueller. One need only look at the staff he’s assembled; they are all Clintonistas. Anyone who expects a fair shake from this team of goons is only fooling themselves.
A criminal investigation that, despite having been in place for over a year and a half, has yet to prove that there was even a crime to investigate. Only tyrants would support such an investigation as this.
