Once again we are focusing on the wrong issues of the latest attack instead of asking the most important question.
The repetitive sequence of the reactions only serves to exacerbate the problem.
It is axiomatic that you cannot fix something that is wrong without properly diagnosing its cause. The wrong solution can often be worse than the original problem.
Mass Murder in Las Vegas: Why
There was a time before the advent of CAD systems that engineers would use precisely cut sheets of plastic to draw up the components to an engineering system. Most machines had the same common elements and these templates helped form these systems. The same could be said about the sequence of articles endemic to the terrorist attacks that are becoming all too frequent these days.
With depressing repetition a common set of stories and opinion pieces begin to emerge as soon as the first reports echo across the wires. At first these are incorrect or conflicting reports of what happened, followed up by the number dead and wounded. Consequently, even with the most tenuous connection with firearms the calls for more people control follow soon after. Then there will be the endless rudimentary examinations of the shooter or shooters, questions over whether it was terror or not and still more calls for people control and so on ad nauseam.
The Oxford English dictionary defines the term “terrorism” as:
The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
Given that politics permeate every aspect of our lives this only serves as just another distraction from the important issue.
It is equally depressing that one can draw up a flowchart of how the news cycle will play out depending on the particular circumstances of the attack. These will determine the life cycle of the story depending on the ethnicity and/or ideological or religious bent of the perpetrator(s). Oftentimes there will be odd occurrences that remain unexplained that spawn all manner of conspiracy theories and alternative narratives.
What is often lost in the rush by some to take full advantage of a ‘serious crisis’ will be the underlying causes of these attacks that are taking place at an alarming frequency. While one could allow that there may be sincere motivations by some to focus on the mere tools of terror, it should be clear that there are others who merely wish to use such attacks to make crass political gains in their attempts to denigrate the cause of liberty.
For if there are people without moral grounding, no amount of control over the actions of the innocent will stop them from carrying out their acts of evil. Such people WILL find a way to kill, if not with firearms, then with edged weapons, if not with edged weapons, then with the mass and velocity of a heavy vehicle, if not with a vehicle, then with explosives, if not with explosives then……..
On a fundamental level, constructing a weapon is simply a matter of taking a destructive force and delivering it to it’s target. This can be anything ranging from the physical force behind an edged weapon to a lorry moving at high speed. This should inform everyone that a focus on mere objects will not resolve the problem. We must look at why these attack are taking place and not be distracted over the simple means by which they are being implemented.
We’ve lost our moral grounding
It should be patently obvious that these attacks are a vestige of our society’s recent loss of moral grounding and not merely caused by objects that have been around for centuries. Repeating firearms have been around for 160 years, explosives for around 1000 years and edged weapon can be traced back to the stone age, and yet these attacks are a recent phenomena, Why?
Outside of organized conflicts these types of attacks rarely took place in the modern era. There is something fundamentally wrong with a society that has a man indiscriminately spray bullets into a crowd, blown them up or attack them with a knife.
Don’t make it worse
It is axiomatic that you cannot fix something that is wrong without properly diagnosing its cause. The wrong solution can often be worse than the original problem. The experience of Chicago and other “gun free” environs are prime fascia evidence that politically motivated attacks on mere objects only serves to exacerbate what is already a dire situation.
We can only fix this problem by getting back to what has stopped these kinds of morally reprehensible actions in the past, there is no other solution.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
