President Trump has found a new low in how he treats the office of the President. It’s not his constant whining about how unfair everyone is to him. It’s not the victim card that he constantly plays so his supporters will pity him more. It’s how he’s handling Jeff Sessions. It’s the weakest series of moves I’ve ever seen from a President, which says a lot after eight years of Barack Obama.
Yes, the President of the United States wants his Attorney General to leave. Nevermind the fact that Jeff Sessions was one of Trump’s earliest and staunchest supporters when so many others refused to take him seriously. We’ll even put aside the highly probable notion that Sessions’ interactions with Russian officials during the campaign were not done without candidate Trump’s knowledge. Lastly, we’ll ignore that his recusal was the only viable move to make in light of the situation. I’m not stymied by the fact that Trump wants Sessions out. What gets me is how he’s going about doing it.
Let’s look at the situation. First, he blasts Sessions out of the blue in an interview with an organization he’s constantly called out as fake news: the New York Times. Second, he was almost certainly the source of the leak to another fake-news-favorite of his, the Washington Post, that alleges Sessions’ interactions with Russia were more nefarious than he admitted. Lastly, he’s going after his Attorney General on Twitter in a way that can only be described as infantile.
In short, the President of the United States is passive aggressive. Instead of just firing Sessions, he’s playing games in public in an effort to force him to resign.
For a man who pretends to be such a strong leader, his chosen course of action is about as weak as it gets.
As for Sessions, I strong encourage him to continue his duties, avoid interviews, stop reading Twitter, and above all else DO NOT RESIGN. If your boss wants you out so badly, make him fire you. If you succumb to the pressure, you’ll only be encouraging him. This is no longer about you alone, Mr. Attorney General. This is now about the future of the nation. Trump needs to not get his way on this one. He wants you to quit. You can’t.
Every time he Tweets out more insults about you, he’s weakening his own position in the mind of voters. Every criticism he lobs at you in public is something you should either ignore or accept. Either he’ll continue his childish behavior or he’ll break down and fire you. Regardless of what happens, he’s sending a message to anyone in his cabinet or staff that loyalty is either absolute or it doesn’t count in his books.
No matter what he says or does, Mr. Sessions, you absolutely cannot give in to his desires. If he wants you out so badly, make him fire you. For the sake of America, don’t kneel before him and kiss his ring prior to falling on your sword as he wishes. Make him pick up the sword and hunt you down with it. Otherwise, you’re only reinforcing his choice to play this game with you and others in the future.
Covid variant BA.5 is spreading. It appears milder but much more contagious and evades natural immunity. Best to boost your immune system with new Z-Dtox and Z-Stack nutraceuticals from our dear friend, the late Dr. Vladimir Zelenko.
I absolutely agree.
Completely agree, JD! Enough is enough! The crazy making by this wee little “man” needs to stop.
